It is so true that Spring is a season of new beginnings. It is a time in which nature comes alive and stretches its wings to begin the work of creating new life. It is also a time when we tend to experience change in our own lives. Maybe just the passing from winter’s bitter cold into warmer weather, the shedding of warming layers to allow limbs to bask in the glint of sunshine, or the stirrings of new ideas in hearts and minds to begin again. Change may also come in other forms: new jobs, shifting families, moves to new homes and lands. Whatever Spring changes are in store for you, it’s important to remember that you can choose how to grow.
In our homes, we clean in the spring. We plant seeds. We mend and tend all of the small wears and tears from the previous year. We bring a fresh perspective to our surroundings, our relationships, and our lives. This is the place in which our choices influence how and what we grow. Just as time will pass and life will age, with the Spring season growth will happen. It is an unstoppable force. When I pass my hand to pull a weed, I know that growth happens. As I gaze at leaves that unfurl in the trees, I see that growth comes. It is within my hand to shape and shepherd that growth for the future.
This year, this season, is your opportunity to take a step back and determine just how you want to grow. Whether this is a daily practice or a seasonal check-in for you, it is completely yours to decide. But nonetheless, it’s within your grasp to choose what to prune and what to feed for the coming year. It is a gift, this assurance of growth and the power to wield its shaping into something amazing. We want to encourage you to look for those growth opportunities in your world, your homes, your relationships, and yourselves. We can’t wait to see how it all grows.
